UK Study On Conflict

The surprising results of a UK study on conflict in marriages

CONFLICT

1 min read

Trevor: Hey, Babe, I saw this study out of the UK where they interviewed 3,000 married couples. They wanted to find out the average number of times that a couple fights in a year. What do you think the average was? Take a guess.

Laura: 50?

Trevor: Higher

Laura: 100?

Trevor: Higher

Laura: 200?

Trevor: Higher

Laura: 300?

Trevor: It's actually 312 times a year.

Laura: Oh that is… You got the wrong information. I don't know where you got that.

Trevor: No, I tell you I saw the study. I can show you the study.

Laura: I would like to see that because it seems a bit ridiculous.

Trevor: Well, I'm not saying it's not ridiculous, I'm just saying that's what the study says.

Laura: I think you got your numbers off.

Trevor: You know what's happening? See we're having a little conflict. We're having a little fight. So that's one fight - do the math - 311 fights left for the remainder of the year. So we really got to make those count!

Laura: Alright alright

Trevor: See part of our goal at Tools for Marriage is to help pre-married couples and couples that are early in their marriage learn how to navigate conflicts and fights. So you may not fight 300 times a year but you probably don't fight 0 times a year. So whether your conflict is little or whether it's BIG we want to give you tools on how you can lovingly manage and work through and compromise and come to a closeness out of these conflicts that you might be having.

Laura: By the way, what were they fighting about?

Trevor: I don't know like typical British stuff like - you didn't put enough cream in my tea or you keep hoarding those bits and bobs or, you know, you should fill the automobile with petrol. Things like that.

Laura: Oh, that makes sense.

Trevor: Yeah, it does make sense.

Laura: So join us on toolsformarriage.com
