PRAY

For some people learning to pray is scary endeavor. What should I say?

For others who have been praying for a while, it may start to get rote.

Remember, one important truth - Praying is just talking to God. There is no perfect way to do it and God is not expecting perfection. He just wants a relationship with you.

This acrostic is a useful tool to consider.

Praise

Repent

Ask

Yield

Praise - Praise Him and acknowledge how great He is and thank Him for the great things He has done. Write or think of what you are thankful for. King David in Psalms wrote -

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of your wonderful deeds.I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Psalm 9:1-2

Repent - Confess sins and turn away from doing it again. He forgives us.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 8-9

Ask - God encourages us to ask for the things that are on our mind.

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be open to you.

Matthew 7:7

Yield - Yield means to be quiet after you’ve spoken to God and listen to what He might want to say to you. Let Him speak, read His Word, you can use a journal to write down the thoughts and promptings that come to your mind. Know that He is our comforter, counselor, helper, encourager, intercessor, companion, and advocate.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
